Wedding Cakes!!!

In class we spent all of last week working on our wedding cakes. It was a requirement to make gum paste flowers, cover the cake in rolled fondant, and have three tiers. I decided to make an all black and white cake. Since there is only one flowers that is naturally black in white, and that is an anemone. I also made black and white jasmine and babies breath as filler flowers. As a trim I used a black velvet ribbon.

Here are some other cakes in the class
This hideous one is our class cake...It is 5 tiers and decorated with everyone's extra flowers

It is so much fun making such beautiful things that are completely edible!!!

Concrete Creations

As I was doing research to find inspiration for my wedding cake I came upon these wonderful concrete rings. They are created by a group of graduates from the Industrial Design Department of the National Chang Kung University in Taiwan. In 2006, they created these rings which are inspired by architecture and urban life.

Chocolate Children's Theme Cake

In class last week we made a children's theme cake. We could choose any theme we wanted, but everything had to be made of chocolate. We were required to have 3 chocolate figures, one pastillage piece painted with cocoa paint. It was a super fun cake and EVERYONE did such an amazing job. My theme was Princess and the Pea, which surprisingly only about 1/3 of the class knew what it was.

Princess Cake

At the end of last week we made a Princess Cake. Princess Cake is a Swedish cake that is often used as a birthday cake for girls. It is a white cake layered with vanilla buttercream or whipped cream and raspberry jam or fresh raspberries. It is then covered in green marzipan and topped with a pink marzipan rose. My cake has vanilla buttercream and fresh raspberries on each layer.
